About Us
What Is Maralto?

Maralto Container Terminal will be one of Brazil’s most modern marine terminals.
Located in Pontal do Paraná, 100 km from Curitiba, the project aims to consolidate the role of the state of Paraná in the Brazilian cargo handling sector and make the country’s foreign trade more competitive.
The project stands out for its planning and design, which incorporate the best international practices of operations, environmental management, and community relations. For us, doing business only makes sense if it can benefit all the parties involved.
The Maralto project is owned by an investment fund controlled by Vinci Partners, which has solid experience in managing large infrastructure and industrial assets in various business segments.
Why Choose Maralto?
“Maralto” is a Portuguese word meaning “high sea.” As such, the Paraná container terminal was named as a tribute to the grandeur of nature, reinforcing one of our key attributes: the minimum depth of the sea [16 meters depth alongside berths @ zero tide]. This will make Maralto one of the only terminals in the southern hemisphere and the only one in Paraná to receive the world’s largest and most modern container ships.

Competitive Advantages
From its location and structure to its socioenvironmental management, Maralto will contribute to providing highly efficient port solutions for container handling in Brazil.
Proximity to other markets traditionally focused on foreign trade means this marine terminal is located on a strategic route, mapped out, and easily accessible to vessels.
The terminal will count on state-of-the-art technology, such as cargo handling operation through 100% electric equipment, reducing CO2 emissions significantly, and highly efficient and safe equipment.
Containerized cargo is clean, free of dust, odors, or residues, and handled in steel boxes that not only protect their contents but also isolate the goods from the outside environment. These conditions contribute to an agile port operation, reducing idle time at the terminal and the impacts on its surroundings.
Not only does the depth alongside berths allow larger ships to berth, but it also enables them to accommodate the most modern vessels committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions in line with international goals. Therefore, Paraná will become one of the first Brazilian states to meet such requirements, and Maralto will put technology at the service of sustainable development.

Technical Aspects

Maralto Container Terminal will be one of the world’s most modern port terminals. The operations will count on state-of-the-art equipment and technology to achieve the highest levels of efficiency, safety, and respect for the environment and local communities.
To achieve a handling capacity of up to 3 million TEU per year, the facilities will cover an area of 627,000 square meters. Out of the total, 450,000 square meters will be dedicated to the container yard, and 25,000 square meters will be allocated to the covered warehouse. The cargo handling operation will be through 100% electric equipment, reducing CO2 emissions significantly.
The 10 Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes for loading and unloading containers to and from ships will lead to more efficient operations and reduce cargo dwell time. In addition, Maralto has 32 shuttle carriers to transport cargo between the berths and the yard, plus 56 Automatic Stacking Cranes (ASCs) that, besides stacking containers, will receive cargo brought from the wharf by the shuttles (during unloading) and deliver to them the containers to be loaded onto the ships, providing Brazil with innovative solutions in the automation of port terminals. Furthermore, our business partners and customers will count on 6,000 power plugs for reefer containers carrying refrigerated cargo.
The berthing area will be 16 meters deep, making the terminal ideal for receiving the latest generation container ships. These vessels have the highest cargo capacity (and up to 400 meters in length), which already meet the global standards for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in maritime cargo transport.
Our Regional Presence
Besides improving cargo handling on the coast of Paraná, Maralto aims to boost regional development.
We estimate that this project will create 1,500 jobs during the construction stage of the port terminal and 1,500 direct and 6,000 indirect jobs during the operation stage. In addition, programs to train and qualify workers will be developed, prioritizing the hiring of local labor.
The launch and operation of the enterprise will boost the growth of the regional services network (such as commerce, lodging, and catering) and local entrepreneurial actions, besides naturally attracting other logistics services to the terminal’s surroundings.
Finally, Maralto will contribute to regional development through tax revenues, particularly the city ISS (Service Tax) and the state ICMS (Value-Added Tax on Sales and Services). Later, the funds collected by the City and State can be allocated to public initiatives in health, education, tourism, public security, and urban infrastructure sectors.
